The Tennessee Native Plant Society was founded in the spring of 1978 as a botanical organization for persons interested in the native flora of Tennessee. Members include wildflower enthusiasts from all over the state who share common interests in the areas of plant identification and folklore, growing native plants from seeds and cuttings for use in naturalized landscapes, and preserving natural areas to protect plants.

TEPPC raises public awareness about the spread of invasive exotic plants into Tennessee natural areas, facilitates the exchange of information concerning management and control of invasive exotic plants, serves as an educational, advisory, and technical support council on all aspects of exotics and initiates campaign actions to prevent further introductions.

Tennessee Rare Plant List

We know plants and we know their value. One quarter of the native plants in the United States are of conservation concern. That’s 5,000 different species. So we work to preserve and restore these native treasures.
The Sewanee Herbarium is involved in education, research, and conservation. We acquire and maintain a collection of pressed and mounted plant specimens with emphasis on the flora of the Sewanee Domain and the immediate four-county area in Tennessee.

The USDA PLANTS Database provides standardized information about the vascular plants, mosses, liverworts, hornworts, and lichens of the U.S. and its territories.
